“Dom,” Amazon Prime Video’s first original Brazilian drama series, will premiere on June 4 as the company ramps up production in the region. The epic criminal drama is Amazon’s first original Brazilian series, which will be available in over 240 countries and territories. The eight-part series is based on the true story of Victor Lomba, a young scuba diver who, by chance, became a military intelligence agent and dedicated his life to the fight against drugs. We follow him over the years as he gets increasingly disillusioned with the never-ending fight and watches in horror as his own son, Pedro, becomes a cocaine addict and one of Rio de Janeiro’s most wanted drug lords.
“Amazon has had a really great start after launching Prime in Brazil in September of 2019, and in less than 18 months we have already announced 11 different series, many of which we are filming simultaneously between Brazil and Uruguay,” said Malu Miranda, Amazon Studios’ head of Brazilian Originals. “Although we can’t tell how many we want to shoot per year,” she added, “the volume is fairly significant because Amazon Brazil is one of the most important territories for the global business.” Amazon Brazil has already debuted two unscripted programs, “All or Nothing Brazil National Team” and “Wild and Free in Floripa,” as well as one scripted series, “5 Times Comedy,” which is currently streaming on the platform.
