Like Scorpion’s Revenge before it, Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms is a film aimed firmly at the hardcore Mortal Kombat fan. It’s chock-full of inside jokes, bone-crunching sequences of graphic violence, and story beats that mirror the events of the games. While Scorpion’s Revenge manages to center its story around Hanzo Hasashi and Scorpion’s tragic origin tale via the prism of the first Mortal Kombat Tournament, Battle of the Realms feels disjointed, seeking to tell too many storylines at once and failing to do any of them justice.
After Shang Tsung’s failure in the Mortal Kombat tournament, Battle of the Realms follows up where Scorpion’s Revenge left off, with an Outworld invasion of Earthrealm lead by a furious Shao Kahn. But the invasion is short-lived, as Shao Kahn soon proposes, you guessed it, another Mortal Kombat tournament. IMDB
