The aesthetically gonzo piece pops my cherry for filmmaker Sion Sono, much like Nicolas Cage having one of his testicles blown off in Prisoners of the Ghostland. I’ll remark right away that the inspirations are visible, as the production design combines Westerns with 12th-century Japanese culture (with ostensibly more modern interior designs and neon-lit exteriors). It’s made up of equally interesting places, such as an old west town ruled by a despicable and sadistic governor who has a stranglehold on the Japanese population, forcing them into sexual servitude.
A post-apocalyptic wasteland in the distant has been impacted by a poisonous calamity that has turned numerous inmates into abnormally wounded and scorched mutants. Meanwhile, ordinary citizens worship a doomsday clock while attempting to survive, occasionally dressing up as frightening mannequins in order to avoid genuine ghosts and other threats, if I understand correctly.
